THE FOURTEENTH ISSUE OF THE LAST MAGAZINE
The Fourteenth Issue is about inspiration, from Ethiopian-born advocate, entrepreneur, actress, role model, super model, and super mom Liya Kebede to Atlanta-bred hip hop artist Raury, who says his goal for 2015 is to “inspire kids in my generation to be the best versions of themselves. Packed full of art, profiles, and features that encapsulate the Spring, TLM14 is an exciting look at the year to come. And there’s some fashion and stuff.
THE COVER: Liya Kebede stars in this stripped-down shoot by Maciek Kobielski and styled by Alastair McKimm. iPAD EXCLUSIVE. Editor-in-chief and creative director Magnus Berger interviews Kebede about her beginnings, her acting, and her desire to do good through her foundation around maternal health.
BALLET 422: Justin Peck is one of the brightest young stars of the ballet world. This intimate documentary follows the creation and performance of Paz de la Jolla, New York City Ballet’s 422nd ballet.
RAURY: Raury’s had quite a year but he’s only getting started. Repped by musicians like Kanye and Outkast and opening for the likes of SBTRKT. But the young genre-bending rapper is more than just another great MC. Find out while he’ll be one to watch and what’s in store for 2015.
RICKY SWALLOW: Object artist Ricky Swallow’s works continue to challenge and inspire: “Time and again, I’m drawn to this idea of object translation. As the materials with which I’m working have changed, the nature of the work has changed as well.”
KAITLYN DEVER: The young actress speaks about growing up wanting to become an actress and what it’s like to finally land the roles she’s always been yearning for.
MOTHXR: The band has taken the music world by storm with its seductive beats and throaty vocals, and that’s before the world knew it was fronted by Penn Badgley, of Gossip Girl fame. The band, and Badley, open up about what drives them even as they close out a residency at famed venue Pianos, on New York’s Lower East Side.
MICHAËL BORREMANS: Lush and mysterious, artist Michaël Borremans’ canvases give the impression of emanations from a hidden, half-lit realm, operating wholly outside of our manicured reality. Borremans speaks with art editor Kevin Greenberg about his process, his work, and a little bit of anarchy.
NASTYA: Photography by Arno Frugier and styling by Zara Zachrisson. Model: Nastya Sten in long, sculptural dresses.
MAX IRONS: Growing up the son of renowned actor Jeremy Irons only whet Max’s appetite for screen and stage. Now, appearing in the upcoming film The Riot Club, inspired by the famously debaucherous (and wealthy) Bullingdon Club at Oxford University, Irons is taking on the world.
LAST THINGS FIRST: New works and profiles on Robert Geller Denim, Samuji Koti, La DoubleJ, Peter Lindbergh’s Women, Area, and more.
